Maalot was established in Jerusalem in 1984 under the leadership of Rabbi Nosson Geisler and Dr. Avraham Schwartzbaum A”H, to meet the needs of seminary graduates seeking a rigorous continuing education.
With this in mind, Maalot designed its curriculum and recruited faculty to offer an advanced education culminating in a baccalaureate degree within a supportive, Torah environment.
In spring 1992, Maalot formalized an articulation agreement with Thomas A. Edison State College of New Jersey. Under this agreement, completion of designated Maalot coursework in accordance with College policies enables students to receive baccalaureate degrees from Thomas Edison in Humanities, Art, Liberal Studies, Computer Science, Psychology, Social Sciences/History or Natural Science/Math, without leaving the Maalot environment. In addition, it is possible to complete a BA degree with all the prerequisites required for application to a masters program in Speech-Language Pathology as well as other Masters programs. Since 1992, more than 3000 students have graduated from Thomas Edison via Maalot programs. Thomas Edison offers Maalot students several benefits including reduced tuition, a longer enrollment period and access to credits for seminary learning which is not recorded on a college transcript.
Thomas Edison was established in 1972 by the New Jersey Board of Higher Education to provide adults with the means to achieve a high quality college education outside of a traditional university setting. Thomas Edison is accredited by the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges. The Thomas Edison degree is highly valued by employers and graduate schools and has been called by the New York Times “one of the brighter stars of higher learning.”
Our students also have excellent graduation options through Excelsior College with preferred tuition rates as well. There might be good reasons to choose one degree over another. Speak to your advisor to help you make that choice.
